Position Overview

We are seeking a Paper Machine Technical Leader to provide professional engineering and technical leadership support for the performance, reliability, safety, quality, and continuous improvement of an assigned tissue paper machine. This position applies engineering principles, data analysis, process optimization, equipment troubleshooting, project execution, and technical problem-solving to improve machine efficiency, reduce losses, support environmental and safety compliance, and maintain consistent product quality. The role will work closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and technical teams to implement engineering solutions and support planned downtime activities.

Job Responsibilities

Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principles to evaluate tissue machine performance, identify root causes of process losses, and implement corrective actions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Analyze production data, process variables, equipment performance, and quality results to develop technical recommendations for machine optimization.
  • Lead or support engineering studies, trials, and continuous improvement initiatives related to paper machine operations, pulping systems, drying, converting interfaces, utilities, and process reliability.
  • Develop and execute technical action plans using structured problem-solving tools, root cause analysis, statistical review, and standard engineering methods.
  • Support product quality improvement through process audits, technical investigations, specification reviews, and corrective actions for rejected or nonconforming product.
  • Prepare, justify, and support capital and reliability projects, including scope development, cost estimates, equipment specifications, installation planning, commissioning support, and performance verification.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance downtimes with operations and maintenance teams by defining technical priorities, reviewing equipment condition, and supporting start-up and stabilization activities.
  • Ensure engineering recommendations and machine changes comply with applicable safety, environmental, lockout/tagout, quality, and company standards.
  • Develop, update, and standardize operating procedures, technical documentation, process control expectations, training materials, qualification cards, and best practices for machine operation.
  • Provide technical guidance to operations personnel, maintenance personnel, and process leads on machine performance, troubleshooting, process control, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in daily and weekly operating reviews to communicate engineering findings, review performance trends, and track progress on technical improvement plans.
  • Support effective delegation, accountability, and follow-up for technical tasks assigned to cross-functional team members.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum  +10 of Professional experience applying engineering principles in manufacturing, paper/tissue production, process engineering, reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or industrial operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze process data, troubleshoot industrial equipment, improve manufacturing processes, and lead technical improvement projects.
  • Knowledge of machinery, process controls, mechanical systems, safety systems, quality systems, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, engineering recommendations, project scopes, performance summaries, and standard operating documentation.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, analytical, decision-making, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn and use production, maintenance, quality, and process data systems.
