Position Overview
Sofidel America of Shelby, NC is currently seeking a Process Engineer. We are searching for a candidate that is local to the area and is looking for a long-term role in a stable environment. Your expertise will make you an important part of our team!
The Process Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, reliability, productivity, capital implementation and continuous improvement of industrial processes regarding manufacturing tissue paper products. The Process Engineer will work with chemical and biochemical processes for raw materials and scale up processes from the laboratory into the manufacturing facility.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols, investigating incidents, and leading behavioral safety programs.
- Lead the technical process for operating areas to solve equipment and process-related problems. This includes development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and One Point Lessons (OPLs), Implementation and modification of Standard Work tasks, and Centerline updates.
- Lead paper machine improvement trials (chemical, mechanical, etc.).
- Provide and correct support data for all reports and performance updates.
- Review production schedules and suggest modifications for reduced downtime and/or changeovers where applicable.
- Maintain and improve product quality, ensuring audits, corrective actions, and product development support.
- Set and achieve production goals, drive loss elimination, and implement problem-solving tools.
- Lead Daily and Weekly Operating Reviews (DOR/WOR) and manage operational budgets efficiently.
- Utilize analytical and decision-making skills to drive continuous improvement.
- Work with maintenance team to collaborate and organize outage schedules for operations where applicable.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, paper science, electrical) preferred.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) with the ability to learn production-related programs.
- Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and industry best practices.
- Ability to work in a high-speed environment with exposure to noise, heat, and chemicals.
- Must stand, walk, and climb while wearing required PPE.
- Must be willing to work extended/flexible hours to support machine upset conditions, and participate in a rotating call schedule with other team members.
