The E&I Technician’s primary responsibility is to ensure that plant process and maintenance equipment are kept in safe, and reliable operating condition. E&I Technicians are expected to utilize electrical/instrumentation maintenance skills to plan, repair, install, and maintain the mill’s electrical and instrumentation systems. This role’s pay is based on years of experience. This position works a 12 hour swinging shift.
Job Responsibilities
- Observes and follows all the safety regulations and plant procedures including use of personal protection equipment (PPE) as required to perform job duties safely.
- Participates in and supports mill’s safety training and safety engagement activities.
- Use the appropriate tools and software to troubleshoot and diagnose the root cause of electrical issues in the facility.
- Troubleshoot and test the functionality of process instrumentation; flow meters, level transmitters, level switches, etc.
- Work with resources to resolve issues as quickly and effectively as possible.
- Interpret electrical schematics and user manuals.
- PLC/DCS programming, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Repair electrical and electronic systems including any electromechanical production equipment.
- Collect PLC input and output data to monitor the efficiency of equipment to assist in the planning of future conversion operations.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems.
- Complete the necessary documentation to ensure control documentations are correct and follow all necessary control procedures, and update drawings to reflect process improvements and field changes.
- Assist and consult with the management/engineering on projects as needed.
- Adhere to safe work practices, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained.
- Manage and work with contractors and vendors to monitor and improve efficiency and output.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- 2-year certification from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics is preferred.
- At least one year of strong industrial electrical background in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong electronics background is preferred with experience also in 480 volt, 2300 volt, 35k volts, 3-PhaseControls; AB/Rockwell DC Drive; AB/Rockwell PLC’s, Control Logic; Reading Electrical Drawings and Ladder Logic.
- Experience with variable frequency drives and smart field instruments (i.e. pressure, flow, temperature, level and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, valve actuators and PID controllers) is necessary.
- Understanding of the working components of PLC/DCS systems.

Work Environment
- Employees will use computers and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.
- Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
